Oncology Times reviews Wade Aubry's new book, "False Hope: Bone Marrow Transplantation for Breast Cancer"

News Item: Oncology Times reviews "False Hope"

Calling it "fascinating, like a complex mystery novel," Dr. Joseph V. Simone reviews Dr. Wade M. Aubry's book, False Hope: Bone Marrow Transplantation for Breast Cancer in the July 10 issue of Oncology Times.  The new book, published by Oxford University Press, chronicles the rise and fall of high dose chemotherapy with autologous bone-marraw transplant (HDC/ABMT) for breast cancer.  Says Dr. Simone:

"Although we know how it ends, the specific roles of each person, the critical sequence of events, and the societal changes underway at the time—advocacy, women’s rights, managed care, the “more is better” movement in chemotherapy, and media portrayal of patients as victims, and legislative and judicial activism— provide an intriguing, quilted story."

The full review is available in the Archive section of Oncology Times, the July 10, 2007 edition.
