Technology Policy Working Group

The Technology Policy Working Group is a new network whose key objective is to provide a forum for communication and collaboration among a group of leaders currently focused on evidence-based health technology policy.

If you are a member, please log in and you will gain access to member-only content.

Working group members share a common view that medical technology policies pose a critical health policy challenge for the next decade and beyond. Experts continue to single out technology as a major driver of increasing health spending. In turn, unsustainable spending trends increase pressure to constrain the dissemination and use of new technologies. As we begin what many scientists believe will be the biological century, the risk we will inadvertently impede valuable innovation becomes an important concern.  Finally, policy efforts must arise from a foundational understanding of patient and clinician needs if they are to represent meaningful and viable strategies.  The Technology Policy Working Group hopes to reflect a full range of relevant perspectives and objectives.  Working together, the group’s committed experts and stakeholders can drive real progress towards coherent and feasible solutions to these issues.

Through this website, conference calls, and in-person working group meetings, the goal of the TPWG is to:

  • Provide the opportunity to learn more about the many new policy initiatives that attempt to link better evidence to policymaking around health care technology, and
  • Provide a forum to discuss critical conceptual, organizational, methodological and ethical issues related to work for medical technology policies

The Technology Policy Working Group is currently administered by the staff of the Center for Medical Technology Policy.
